As Kim Clijsters has signed up for the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, it means another top player will be in the line-up in Stuttgart. The former world No. 1, who won the long standing tournament in 2002 and 2003, will therefore be continuing her sensational comeback trail in the Porsche Arena from 24 April to 2 May. After giving birth, the 26 year-old Belgian returned to the WTA Tour in autumn 2009 and shortly afterwards won the US Open. She also had a successful start to the 2010 season by winning the Brisbane tournament in Australia.
Markus Günthardt, the tournament director, would not be at all surprised to see her win the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix for a third time this year. “She was always an exceptional athlete. It must have certainly helped her to be so successful so quickly after returning to the game,” he said and is delighted to be now also able to present, alongside seven current top ten players, Kim Clijsters to the spectators in the Porsche Arena. He continued: “She’s a fantastic player who not only hammers the ball over the net but she’s also a great tactician. Watching her play is a joy for all tennis fans. Not every sport can boast such a successful mother.”
